U.S. supports Frontline countries’ fight against Al Shabaab

Mogadishu Feb 02, 2023 (SD) – The United States has shown support for the meeting held yesterday in Mogadishu between the leaders of Somalia and the countries supporting the ATMIS mission.

A statement posted on the Twitter account of the US Embassy in Mogadishu praised the unity shown by the leaders in their fight against Al-Shabaab and for the security of East Africa.

The four-country meeting in Mogadishu between the leaders of Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, and Kenya showed support for the operations against Al-Shabaab led by the Somali government and the collaboration of regional countries in joint operations to eliminate the presence of Al-Shabaab.

A statement from the meeting stated that the leaders agreed on the need for increased collaboration to support the neighboring countries in their fight against Al-Shabaab.

The leaders also agreed to carry out joint operations to eliminate Al-Shabaab from all of Somalia, facilitate the withdrawal of ATMIS forces, and gradually transfer security responsibility to the Somali forces.
