UCID chairman to IC: Somaliland is on the verge of civil war

NAIROBI (SD) – Chairman of the Somaliland opposition party UCID Faisal Ali Warabe in an interview with Universal TV confirmed he met with members of the international community in Nairobi and briefed them on them on the opposition’s position on postponing the presidential election.

The chairman said that after 30 years, Somaliland is on the verge of civil war fueled by President Muse Bihi Abdi’s desire to postpone the November 13, 2022 presidential election.

“We have shared our position with the international community, and the president has had a Zoom meeting with them, and the president said was not correct when we told them we are in agreement in registering new political assosiations.” said the UCID Chairman.

The chairman of the UCID opposition party said President Bihi saw the writing on the wall following the opposition swept the last House of Representatives and Municipal elections.

The international partners met with UCID chairman in person and on Zoom with the president of Somaliland on Thursday, both telling the partners conflicting information regarding the electoral dispute.

The dispute over the presidential election is based on the fact that President Bihi does not want to compete with the current national parties, preferring to register and compete with much weaker parties.
