UK keeps Hawalas going for Somalis

London (SD) – The UK Government has confirmed that remittance services will remain available during this Covid19 shut down.

The UK, one of the countries worst hit by covid19, the virus killed 30,000 and more than 201,000 have been contracted the virus.

A statement from the UK Embassy in Somalia said the move means that the Somali diaspora can continue to support their friends and relatives in Somalia.

The Somali federal government welcomed the move, saying Somalis in the diaspora can keep supporting their relatives in Somalia.

Since the outbreak of Covid19, remittance and banking services have declined, as a result of measures to combat covid19.
