GAROWE (SD) -The United Nation’s office in Somalia has called on the Puntland regional government to take steps towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo.
Ms. Catriona Liang, the UN representative for Somalia, emphasized this during her visit to the city of Garowe, where she held discussions with top Puntland officials on Saturday.
The envoy conveyed the UN’s appreciation for Puntland’s efforts in mediating and hosting over 100,000 displaced persons who fled the recent clashes in Las Anod.
Ms. Liang acknowledged Puntland’s significant responsibility in providing humanitarian assistance and expressed gratitude for their swift response in accommodating the affected population.
Somaliland has repeatedly accused Puntland o being behind the Sool fighting, making it impossible to help resolve the conflict.
The recent conflict between Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo, which erupted on the 9th of this month, resulted in the death of 20 people and injuries to many others on both sides.
Additionally, several vehicles were seized by Somaliland. The UN’s call for a peaceful resolution comes at a time when of a renewed deadly fighting in Sool region.
