UNPOS calls for increased protection for Somali Journalists

MOGADISHU (SD) -On World Press Freedom Day, the United Nations in Somalia highlighted the critical role of Somali journalists in addressing the challenges facing their country and urged increased protection.

Within Somalia, the United Nations supports civil society’s participation in promoting the relationship between human rights and environmental changes – understanding how ecological issues impact fundamental human rights such as the right to life, health, and access to clean food and water.

As part of celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations initiated media campaigns and organized youth dialogues on environmental issues to gather their views on how environmental changes affect Somalia.

World Press Freedom Day, established by the UN General Assembly in 1993, underscores the importance of press freedom and the rule of law, especially given the current global humanitarian crisis.
