Washington (SD) – US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee said she had a telephone conversations with President Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble.
“I spoke today with Somalia’s President @M_Farmaajo about the urgent need to stop escalatory rhetoric and actions. I stressed security forces should remain neutral. I urged him to support PM @MohamedHRoble in convening the NCC and completing credible elections quickly.” said Molly Phee in a tweet.
Molly Phee, meanwhile, expressed support for Prime Minister Roble’s efforts to convene a National Consultative Assembly, to correct electoral irregularities and to quickly conclude credible elections.
“I spoke yesterday with Somalia’s PM @MohamedHRoble to underscore our support for his efforts to hold an NCC meeting to correct election irregularities and swiftly conclude credible elections. All parties should stop escalatory actions and security forces should remain neutral.” said Molly Phee in a tweet.
The United States has also threatened to take action against those who obstruct the election process, and called for free and fair elections.
President Farmajo now appears to have lost the trust of some of the world’s largest supporters of his government.
