Hargeisa (SD) – The opening ceremony of Taiwan’s Representatives office in Hargeisa was attended by Somaliland government ministers and other invited guests.
The event was attended by the Taiwanese Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu online, who said he was very pleased with the opening of the office in Somaliland.
Speaking at the event, members of the Somaliland Council of Ministers said they view the new diplomatic relationship with Taiwan as important.
The Taiwanese government announced in early July 2020 that it would open a diplomatic mission in Hargeisa to strengthen ties with Somaliland.
Somaliland also dispatched a representative to Taipei recently, he is expected to open a diplomatic office there soon.
China and Somalia, who claim that Taiwan and Somaliland are part of their territories, have equally criticized the new relationship.
