Togdher (SD) – A court in the Togdher region of Somaliland has sentenced a man to death for raping and killing a woman in Burao, the capital of Togdher region.

The court sentenced Zakaria Abdi Yusuf to death, adding it found him guilty of the murder of Late Ugbad Ali Abdullahi, a mother of three children.

The victim was studying at the University of Burao and was brutally killed after being raped, according to her nephew Abdinasir Ali Abdullahi.

The chairman of the Togdher regional court announced the results of the case today, saying that after receiving evidence and hearing witnesses in the case of Ugbad Ali, it sentenced Zakaria Abdi Yusuf to death.

The case has caused a stir in Somaliland, particularly in the town of Burao, after reports of a mother of three was brutally killed after she was raped.

Rape and murder have been on the rise in Somali regions in recent years, with fewer people being arrested and prosecuted.
